Newspaper Articles
The UT Sailing Team and its sailors have made appearances in several newspapers throughout the years. Below are a selection of some of the most interesting newspaper articles that have been saved about the team.
January 2001
The following article was published by The Log, a California-based newspaper that reports on boating and fishing news, in January of 2001. The article features a story about Bruce Mahoney, a sailor from the UT Sailing Team. He had just won the ICSA North American Men’s Single Handed Championships in Seattle.
April 2002
The following article was published in April of 2002 by on campus, a publication by The University of Texas at Austin. It details a riveting event that happened during a regatta in Galveston, Texas. When a family’s van ended up submerged in the water, sailors from the UT Sailing Team as well as from the Texas A&M College Station and Texas A&M Galveston teams helped rescue the family from drowning.
May/June 2004
This excerpt in The Alcalde, a magazine for alumni of UT Austin, gives a short description and history of the UT Sailing Team. It discusses the finances of the team, who are seeking donations for the purchase of a new fleet of boats before hosting ICSA Nationals in 2005.
August 2004
The following article was published by Providence Journal, the largest newspaper in Rhode Island. This article reports that Paul Foerster, a former sailor for the UT Sailing Team, and his crew, Kevin Burnham, had won gold in the 2004 Olympics in Athens in the 470-class.

Telltale is the Austin Yacht Club’s newsletter.
