1989 Ensey Memorial Regatta

The Ensey Memorial Regatta was a regatta hosted by Baylor University. In 1989, the UT Sailing Team won second place overall at this regatta. This plaque was gifted to the team as an award and is still in great condition today.

1992 Ensey Memorial Regatta

The UT Sailing Team attended the Ensey Memorial Regatta and was again awarded second place in 1992. Time has not treated this plaque well and many of the imperfections it displays today were beyond the scope of the restoration and repairs conducted in 2021.

Joe Sircely was likely among the sailors at this regatta.

1991 Women’s Intercollegiate Regatta

In 1991, the UT Sailing Team’s Women’s Team won second place at the USF&G Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl is an intercollegiate regatta that is hosted around New Year’s Day each year in New Orleans, Louisiana on Lake Pontchartrain.

The women who made up this team (and the UT Sailing Team’s Women’s Team in the following two years) was likely composed of Kim Young, Kathryn Hammond, Heather Fullerton, Kim Nolan, Darcy Brooks, Sabrina Morgan, and Sherry Nieman.

1994 SEISA Team Racing Championship

Each year, teams from each conference within the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) gather together for a championship regatta to determine which teams will get to compete at nationals. The UT Sailing Team is within the South-Eastern Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SEISA), and in 1994 took home this award for getting second place in the team racing championship for their conference.

1994 SEISA Dinghy Championship

More than one event is hosted at each conference championship regatta. In 1994, the UT Sailing Team not only took home an award for the Team Racing Championship, but also a third place award for the Dinghy Championship. This plaque seems to have faced more wear and tear than the plaque above it, despite having been awarded in the same year.

Benjamin C. Haller Memorial Regatta

2019 Benjamin C. Haller Regatta

In 2019, sailors from the UT Sailing Team drove to Boulder, Colorado for the weekend to compete at the Benjamin C. Haller Memorial Regatta, hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder. It was a cold and snowy weekend; the team built a snowman and had a snowball fight while waiting for the sailors from CU Boulder to de-ice the boats in the morning. While the wind was not ideal for sailing, the team managed to take home third place and this cute trophy.

Sailors present at this regatta were Karina Bertelsmann, Lilly Andersen, Fred Winguth, Mckenzie Kotara, and Allie Gretzinger.

The sailors at this event created a montage video to commemorate the long journey of traveling to and competing at this regatta. As is the case with most regattas that the UT Sailing Team travels to, it was an epic road trip. Countless hours of team bonding have happened in rented minivans on the way to regattas, and this montage is certainly evidence of that fact. The fun of the UT Sailing Team certainly extends beyond the on-the-water activities. The video montage from this regatta can be watched below.
