Practices are held twice a week out of the Austin Yacht Club on Lake Travis, where our 18 boat fleet is housed.
If you are registering for classes soon, remember that our practices are held on TUESDAY and THURSDAY afternoons at 2:00 PM.
Every Monday night we hold an evening lesson on campus taught by the residing Captain. Virtually every weekend offers the opportunity of traveling to a Regatta within, and occasionally outside of, our district.
Some of our travel destinations this past Spring alone include
Dallas, Galveston and College Station TX
New Orleans, LA
Charleston, SC
Madison, WI
Seattle, WA
Stillwater, OK
Major Team accomplishments include, but are not limited to, consistently placing in the upper half of the fleet in all conference regattas,
placing 3rd in Coed SEISA Dinghy Championships held here in Austin, placing 2nd in Women's SEISA Dinghy Championships, sending a team of five to ICSA Coed National Semifinals in Washington and a team of five to ICSA Women's Nationals in Wisconsin.
In all instances, over half of the sailors had never sailed prior to college.
Many of our top sailors began with no experience. With dedication and self-motivation, you will become a well-equipped and competent collegiate sailor.
Sailing is fun, too, otherwise we wouldn't do it. Texas Sailing has social outlets within our own team and within the conference at large. Our teammates are some of our best friends, with the basis of amazing shared memories and experiences that stretch from coast to coast.

Texas Sailors have been busy this May as they travelled across the United States to participate in Coed Semifinals and Women's Nationals. We've all had a great time and, although sad to see such a successful & fun semester end, we look forward to the growth and development of our team this summer, into the fall and future. We thank everyone for their support.
We sent a team of five to compete in the ICSA Western Coed Semifinals in Seattle April 30th - May 3rd. Unfavorable winds only permitted the completion of two races in each Division on the first day, and 10 races were completed in each division were completed over all by the end of the second day.
Texas Sailing sent their women's team to the ICSA Women's Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin from May 25th through Saturday, May 29th. For the first two days, a total lack of wind resulted in no races being completed during the semifinal round. To determine which 9 teams advanced to the Finals round, performance within district was examined and Texas Sailing progressed to the final round. On the third day, 10 quality races in each division were completed.
We sent our ladies to Texas A&M on April 10th for SEISA Women's Champs. Saturday was successful for the Longhorns, placing 2nd out of 5 competing teams and qualifying us for Women's Nationals at the end of May. Congratulations to the 1st and 2nd place team, Texas A&M Galveston and Tulane, who qualified as well!
We are excited to send a team to Galvestion this weekend to compete in SEISA Team Racing Champs.
The Texas Sailing team is still recruiting new members for the fall. We will be tabling at West Mall and the Gregory Plaza this week (April 19th through 23rd) if you have a chance to stop by. In addition, we would like to welcome you to join us for a meeting and/or a practice to meet the team.
Our meetings are held regularly every Monday in Parlin 105 at 8pm, and our practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:15. Experience in sailing is not a prerequisite, and many of our members had never sailed prior to college.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to update you on what we've been up to over the past few weeks! It's been a busy and exciting semester for the team.
For the weekend of February 20th, we sent a team to the Charleston Spring Intersectional in South Carolina. Our team sailed both Saturday and Sunday. The winds started at 3-5 knots in the morning and increased to 8-12 knts in the afternoon. On both days were short postponements in the morning to allow the breeze to fill in. Despite a frustrating strong current and impressive competition, our Longhorns did well!
That same weekend, we sent a team to Frozen Hate at SMU, a SEISA team racing event. Texas won 6 of their 8 races. Due to foul weather on Sunday rotations were unable to be completed.
February 27th-28th, Texas hosted the McCarthy Cup, an open 3x3 team racing regatta. We had a postponement till 1 on Saturday due to light conditions, and cut off around 4:00 pm. On Sunday, racing began at 10 am and due to heavy wind conditions three teams withdrew. Cut off was at 2 without time for a championship round. It was a fun experience for all the teams that participated and it was great having two teams of Texas Alumni sailing.
For the weekend of March 6th, we sent our Women's team to Bedlam @ OSU. It was a one day regatta on Lake Carl Blackwell. It began at 11:00 am with light, shifty winds that filled in to 8-15 knots by the 4:00 pm cut-off time. Our women's team placed 4th out of 8th, qualifying for Women's Champs at TAMU on April 10th.
We just returned from our old favorite, New Orleans, for Garner Tullis, a team racing regatta hosted by Tulane. With 5 participating teams, Texas 1 placed first and Texas 2 placed third. TAMUG sent one team, placing second, with Tulane Women's in third.
We are pumped for SEISA Dinghy Champs here in Austin this weekend. We have 9 participating teams coming in to compete.
The Texas team had a great time in New Orleans this past weekend.
The following are the results & Regatta highlights sent to SEISA from Christopher Burd of Tulane for the 2010 Nelson Roltsch Regatta.

Regatta Highlights
This weekend's regatta was dominated by very light winds out of the north. Saturday was cold with very fluky wind from the northwest. The breeze peeked at 6 knots around 1pm before dying back down to 2-4 knots. 6 races were sailed in each division. Sunday was warmer but again featured wind between 2-6 knots. The wind direction constantly shifted between the northwest and northeast, keeping the markset very busy and making it difficult to get off races. 3 races were sailed in each division before the cutoff time. Emory and UNT both were not able to make it to the regatta due to the snow, and UVA was a no show.
Thank you to our PRO Peter Strong as well as Southern Yacht Club for ensuring we had a great event.
Happy Mardi Gras

The team travelled to Galveston for the weekend for the Harris L. Kempner Intersectional Regatta. Saturday morning temperatures were in the 40's, winds were puffy, 8-10 knots. Temperature and wind increased into the afternoon. Racing commenced at 10:15, and ended around 4:30. Galveston provided a great barbecue lunch for the participating teams. Our Texas 1 team placed 2nd, and our Texas 2 team placed 5th. Congratulations to Tulane for their win!

We're travelling to New Orleans for 2010 Nelson Roltsch Intersectional this weekend (Feb 13-14.)
The weekend after (Feb 20-21) we will be sending the team to Frozen Hate 2x2 Team Race in SMU,
in addition to shipping a team of four to the Charleston Spring Coed Intersectional.
Saturday morning started with temperatures in the low 30s and wind at 10-14 knots from the north/northwest leaving Austin with a wind-chill around 25 degrees. Due to the weather, races were postponed until 1100 to wait for the air temperature to rise. Races commenced at 1200 as the temperature was rising and the wind was decreasing. The breeze stayed steady out of the north/northwest at 9-12 knots. Six races were completed in each division.
Collegiate sailors also shared the race course with the Vanguard 15 fleet who brought 9 boats. Thank you for coming out and showing us such a great competitive fleet.
Thank you to our PRO Steve Gay and our mark-set team of Charlie Arnold and Kent Phillips.
Congratulations to LSU for their win.
