Hey everyone, I just wanted to update you on what we've been up to over the past few weeks! It's been a busy and exciting semester for the team.
For the weekend of February 20th, we sent a team to the Charleston Spring Intersectional in South Carolina. Our team sailed both Saturday and Sunday. The winds started at 3-5 knots in the morning and increased to 8-12 knts in the afternoon. On both days were short postponements in the morning to allow the breeze to fill in. Despite a frustrating strong current and impressive competition, our Longhorns did well!
That same weekend, we sent a team to Frozen Hate at SMU, a SEISA team racing event. Texas won 6 of their 8 races. Due to foul weather on Sunday rotations were unable to be completed.
February 27th-28th, Texas hosted the McCarthy Cup, an open 3x3 team racing regatta. We had a postponement till 1 on Saturday due to light conditions, and cut off around 4:00 pm. On Sunday, racing began at 10 am and due to heavy wind conditions three teams withdrew. Cut off was at 2 without time for a championship round. It was a fun experience for all the teams that participated and it was great having two teams of Texas Alumni sailing.
For the weekend of March 6th, we sent our Women's team to Bedlam @ OSU. It was a one day regatta on Lake Carl Blackwell. It began at 11:00 am with light, shifty winds that filled in to 8-15 knots by the 4:00 pm cut-off time. Our women's team placed 4th out of 8th, qualifying for Women's Champs at TAMU on April 10th.
We just returned from our old favorite, New Orleans, for Garner Tullis, a team racing regatta hosted by Tulane. With 5 participating teams, Texas 1 placed first and Texas 2 placed third. TAMUG sent one team, placing second, with Tulane Women's in third.
We are pumped for SEISA Dinghy Champs here in Austin this weekend. We have 9 participating teams coming in to compete.
